How to Herd Cats: Chaos-Proof Your Writing Life

😣 No time to write? No focus, energy, or inspiration in the rare stolen moment to yourself?

😫 Feeling anxious - afraid your muse will disappear by the time your schedule calms down?

😵‍💫 Too many ideas, too little focus, no progress?

Don’t give up!

😻 Develop a flexible writing practice that will work with you – even when you have no time, no focus, no energy, and no consistency.

🎉 For only $9, “How to Herd Cats” provides four clear strategies you can use, starting today.

Do you ever come across common, well-loved advice on writing and think… that’s not for me? I get it. When I had two kids under two, there were days I thought I’d never write again. Still now, between work, parenting, and a squirrelly spicy brain, I get so frustrated at this type of advice! Consistency? Not a chance. Regular writing time? I often can’t make it three days. Word-counting spreadsheets to focus on my goals are abandoned within a week.

But I never stopped. There were times I could barely squeak out a few words in a month for ages, I always felt like a writer, and never lost sight of the projects that I was cooking up – even if they needed to be mostly on the back burner for a while.

I’ve created a simple, practical strategy to help you do the same. Designed to keep your work-in-progress in focus even when you can’t focus, these lessons are arranged into four key concepts with a memorable acronym so that you can listen, implement immediately, and remind yourself immediately when life throws you off and you need to refresh the system.

And yes, the acronym is CATS. Because I couldn’t help myself. 😹

Writers with ADHD, new parents, neurospicy & spoonie creatives or anyone with inconsistent energy or calendars: you don’t have to lose track of your writing life! This audio course provides practical, simple, free strategies you can implement today to keep your writing project in focus.

Questions? I’ve got answers:

Who are you? Who made this thing? How do I know it’s good advice?

Hi! I’m Sloan. I’m a writer, editor, and writing coach. You can learn more about me at www.katesloanfiffer.com. I’ve been helping writers find their voice and polish their work for 15 years. After completing my MFA, I struggled at first to make time for writing once I’d left my grad school community behind. I eventually nailed my system of maintaining my writing practice amidst all the life stuff (work, marriage, divorce, marriage, kids, pandemic, ADHD diagnosis, etc, etc… 😂). This course is my system, explained clearly, so you can create your own system that works for you.

I write [fiction/nonfiction/blog posts/poetry/etc]. Will this help me?

The advice and exercises are designed to work for all forms and genres. This is less about what you’re writing, and more about developing a system that helps you keep your creative muscles stretched and your writing dream alive and well-fed.

Will this help me finish my book?

In short, not really. I mean.. in the sense that it will help you *keep going* … this can be a useful but small part of that process. But if you’re looking for a goal-driven, accountability-focused, finishing tool, this is not the thing. This is designed to help with the process, not the product. (But please visit me at katesloanfiffer.com for other offers if you want help with the product!)
